Qur’anic Recitation Study Progress Update

Since 2013 when it was first introduced in Al-Noor School, Iqra Method has becoming a very important part of Al Noor Qur’anic Study. The Iqra method adoption in the Qur’anic study has also changed the way of Al-Noor QRS curriculum and teaching goal. This journey is summarised in Figure 2. This is a brief chart showing how Iqra Method has changed Al Noor way of teaching QRS and how Iqra Method has influenced the planning and quality improvement of QRS learning process for both the teachers and the students.

Current Stage of Al Noor QRS

1.       Iqra 1

At this level the students learn the art of Arabic pronunciation and alphabet. This is the foundation of QRS study.

2.       Iqra 2

At this level the students learn how to read combined Arabic words and understand the rule of Mad Ashli with fathah.

3.       Iqra 3

At this level the students learn how to read a more complex combined arabic words and sentences and understand the rule of Mad Ashli with fathah, kasrah and dhammah.

4.       Iqra 4

At this level the students learn learn how to read a more complex arabic sentences and understand the rule of sukoon in different ways including qalqalah and non-qalqalah.

5.       Iqra 5

At this level the students learn learn how to read short ayah and understand the rule of waqf, noon sakinah and tanween rules (idgham), syaddah and various mudood.

6.       Iqra 6

At this level the students learn how to read longer ayah and understand the rule of noon sakinah and tanween (idgham, Iqlab and Ikhfa), types of waqf and various mudood (maad lazim mukhoffaf harfi).

7.       Qur’an 1

At this level the students will start to read Juz 30 of the Qur’an with the meaning, learning further tajweed rules and memorising Juz 30 with perfection starting from surah An-Naas.

8.       Qur’an 2

At this level the students will finish the whole Qur’an in a year term (30 juz), learning and implementing further tajweed rules and memorising Juz 29 with perfection starting from surah Tabaarak.

9.       Qur’an 3

At this level the students will finish the whole Qur’an in a year term (30 juz) with the meaning, learning and implementing further tajweed rules and memorising Juz 29 – 30 with perfection starting from surah Tabaarak.

10.       Qur’an 4

At this level the students will finish memorising Juz 25 – 30 with perfection, learning and implementing further tajweed rules.

The outcome of all Iqra book 1-6 is the student should be able to read any Iqra book that they have passed with fluency and perfection. Passing Iqra book means, the student would be able to read any page in Iqra book which the student has passed in less than 3-4 minutes per page (depends on Iqra book level) with a maximum 3 mistakes.

The outcome of all Qur’an level is the student should be able to read any Qur’an page that they have passed with fluency and perfection. It means, the student would be able to read any page in the Qur’an which the student has passed in less than 5 minutes per page with a maximum 5 mistakes.

The outcome of the QRS Study is that the student is fully understood the importance of the Qur’an, the importance and the reward of reading the Qur’an, fully understood all tajweed rules and implement the rules, understand the importance of understanding the meaning of the Qur’an and to implement them in daily life. In graduation day, the student should be able to read the Qur’an fluently in perfection and memorise 5 Juzuk of the Qur’an Insha Allah.
